My Lord,
I have the honour to acknowledge the
receipt of Your Lordship's confidential despatch,
dated the 29th of June, 1929, informing me that the
Army Council has signified its inability to support
the request of the General Officer Commanding the
Troops, China Command, to be relieved of the duties
incident to membership of the Executive and
Legislative Councils of Hong Kong. In the
circumstances, I do not wish to proceed with that
proposal.
2. Nor do I wish, as Your Lordship correctly assumes in your despatch confidential (2) of the
24th of July, 1929, to take any further action with
regard to the consequent proposals that the
Director of Public Works should be added to the list
of ex officio members of the Executive and
Legislative Councils, and that the Director of
Education should be appointed a nominated official
member of the latter Council.
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
LORD PASSFIELD,
